Abstract
sensors.AFRICA develops low-cost sensors for monitoring air quality, noise levels, and gases, designed and produced through a globally distributed process. This case study explores the design, manufacturing, deployment, and maintenance processes managed by a small team of hardware and software engineers spread across multiple cities in Africa. With manufacturing activities spanning four continents, the initiative delivers real-time environmental monitoring solutions, empowering communities with actionable insights. The study highlights the iterative design process, the challenges faced in operations, and the team’s approach to fostering innovation and resilience in a hybrid work environment.
