Exploring the Potential of Recycled Plastic Waste as a Sustainable Building Material in Architecture

Abstract
This study explored the potentials of plastic waste as a sustainable building material to help curb the amount of plastic disposed by utilizing it in construction . Research indicates that utilising plastic trash for construction purposes can both greatly increase environmental sustainability and provide a consistent supply of building materials. The large presence of plastics disposed at the food court, faculty blocks and hostel buildings at Nile University presents ample opportunity to utilize these solid wastes into other useful products. This study seeks to assess the awareness level of architecture students at Nile University on the potentials of utilizing plastic wastes as a sustainable building material in architecture and recommend possible application of this recycled material. To achieve the objectives of this paper, a quantitative data collection method using surveys was utilized. The results feature responses taken from architecture students of Nile University. The findings highlight the need for a more integrated approach to teaching sustainable building techniques, as well as the use of alternative building materials such as recycled plastic waste into architectural design, as well as a recommendation to design and install parklets in within the University campus.
