  • Abstract
Aluminium alloy is suitable in wide range of applications in automobile, aerospace and oil and gas industries and it is needed to be studied in protecting it against acidic environment. This study investigated effect of corrosion on anodised aluminium alloy in acidic environment. The study investigated the corrosive behaviour of both anodised unanodised aluminium alloy in acidic environment. The environment set up was tetra-oxo-sulphate (VI) acid (H2SO4). It was observed that dry films thickness increases as electrolyte (H2SO4) concentration increases. Aluminium 6060 lost weight on exposing to acid solution after 504 hours. The initial weight of the aluminium was 100g before corrosive effect. The final weight of the alloy after 504 hours exposure in H2SO4 media was 98.1g and 96.7g for both anodised and unanodised alloy respectively. However, weight loss was reduced using anodisation process both media in comparing with unanodised alloy. The use of anodisation helps in protecting the pipe against corrosion in acidic environment.
